The Carmel Palladium - Economic lifesaver or liability?

Carmel Palladium

One of the most talked about construction projects in the STATE, the much anticipated Carmel Palladium-The Center for the Performing Arts had its Grand Opening Gala last Saturday January, 22. Hundreds of locals turned out in frigid temps to witness the ribbon cutting ceremony and to feast their eyes on Carmel's newest crown jewel. The controversy surrounding the project has been nothing less than sensational over the past 3 yers as tax payers have protested and demanded the mayor to be straight with them about the cost of the project and where the funds were allocated. However, in response to the naysayers, Mayor Brainard says that the "most important thing about this project is that its going to create all kinds of economic development for Carmel."The goal of the $150,000,000 plus project was to create an artistic and entertainment venue for northsiders who previously had to drive downtown to experience such cultural events. Realistically, this should bring more visitors to Carmel and drive dollars to local businesses and the community, which have been suffering as of late due to climbing vacancy's in office space, increased mortgage foreclosures and an overall net job loss.

The Carmel community leaders have worked very hard in recent years to bring cultural and artistic diversity to the area to create a community atmosphere with the development of the Carmel Arts & Design DistrictClay Terrace and The Monon Community Center and the planning of various events throughout the year to promote this concept.January 31st marks the the centers first concert, The Chamber of Music Society of Lincoln Center will perform. Thinking about buying tickets for upcoming concerts? Better hurry! As of today, three concerts to be held at The Palladium have already sold out! If this is any indication of the need for this type of venue in the Carmel community, then I believe it could be the launch of an economic upswing for the people of Carmel!
